Alternative Service Point and Study Spaces During MSE Library Renovation

While MSE Library is closed for renovation, Hopkins students, faculty, and staff will still have access to the essential resources they need for teaching and learning.

Introducing MSE Library Annex

Open as of June 24 in the former Hopkins Club building behind Gilman Hall (see map below), MSE Library Annex is our interim, temporary service point on the Homewood campus for J-Card holders. Here you are able to:

  • Pick up and check out books and other library items requested through Catalyst, in addition to Interlibrary Loan, BorrowDirect, and Reserves
  • Return books and other library items
  • Print and scan documents
  • Read or study in a community learning environment offering both quiet and social study spaces
  • Meet with your liaison librarian for research support
  • Ask our friendly staff general questions about the Libraries

Where can I find study spaces?

Homewood campus

  • Brody Learning Commons and Hutzler Reading Room in Gilman Hall (The Hut) will continue to be available while MSE Library is closed for renovation. Please check hours here.
    • The south wing of The Hut is operating as a research and teaching space reserved for graduate students, faculty, and staff affiliated with the Departments of Classics, History of Art, and Near Eastern Studies. J-card swipe is required.
  • Hodson Hall is available as a new, alternative study space. The building’s open lobby areas and first-floor reading room now offer library carrels, tables, and seating, in addition to large windows, natural light, and ample wireless coverage. The third-floor boardroom will open around mid-July as dedicated graduate student study space.

Peabody campus

  • George Peabody Library offers quiet study seating in one of the world’s most beautiful libraries. It is located about 3 miles south of Homewood campus in Baltimore’s historic Mt. Vernon Cultural District and served by the Hopkins Shuttle. Please check hours here.
